Your green space is a treasure for you and the environment, improving air quality and reducing heat islands. In fact, all the plants you plant – lawns, perennials, annuals, trees and shrubs – trap an impressive quantity of GHGs.

Our recommendations to improve your Carbon Footprint
Congratulations for your contribution to the health of the environment. You're on the right track, but there are several improvements you can make to enhance your Carbon Footprint.
Congratulations! Your green space is in the average range of Quebec's land for carbon sequestration. Continue your efforts and optimize your result by following these recommendations.
Congratulations! Your contribution to the environment is outstanding! Continue to maintain your green space and enrich it for the health of our planet.
Simply having a green space composed of various types of plants is very important in the fight against climate change. Your plants are precious, take good care of them. To improve your Carbon Footprint, here are some recommendations from our experts:
Take Good Care of Your Yard
Let a Nutrite Expert take care of your lawn. A well-maintained and properly fertilized lawn has deeper and denser roots and captures at least twice as much carbon as an unmaintained lawn.
Change your maintenance equipment, gas-powered mower, grass trimmer, hedge trimmer, etc. for electric models. This change will have a direct impact on your Carbon Footprint since the emissions for the maintenance of your landscaping will be zero.
Enhance Your Green Space
Make sure you have all types of plants in your green space: trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and lawn. Each plant has its role to play.
Plant large-scale trees, they are the champions of carbon sequestration. Plus, they create shade and protect your home from the wind, which helps you save electricity. Redo the test by changing your data to see the impact of such an addition.
Consider adding food trees: fruit trees, nut trees, etc. In addition to sequestering carbon and improving your Carbon Footprint, they produce food for you and the wildlife.
Compensate for the Emissions you can't Eliminate
If it is difficult for you to plant more plants at home, you can make a donation to your local park or school or purchase carbon credits from a reputable company such as Arbre-Évolution that will plant trees or reforest shorelines to make your Carbon Footprint positive.
Our adaptation to climate change
With climate change, many things are bound to be different. Droughts and heat waves are likely to be more frequent and longer, heavy rains, often called "floods", will be more common and we will certainly see the arrival of new insects from other countries. Your plants are important allies in this new reality. Your green space is a precious asset not only for you, but also for society as a whole.
- A 2,500 square foot lawn produces enough oxygen for a family of 4 for a year.
- Extended flowering throughout the season feeds the pollinators that are essential to the production of the fruits and vegetables we eat.
- A dense and vigorous lawn, mowed high (8 cm during the season), has an impressive root system that allows it to support the hazards of the weather.
- The temperature of a lawn can be up to 14ºC lower than a paved surface. The shade created by trees also reduces the ambient heat. All plants contribute to the reduction of heat islands.
